Partnership with Speed Skating Canada
We have sponsored Speed Skating Canada and our short and long national teams since 2006. The past few years have been very successful for Canada’s speed skaters. At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy, the team amassed a remarkable 12 medals, including golds for Cindy Klassen and Clara Hughes in the 1500m and 5000m respectively. During the 2008-2009 World Cup season, Canada's speed skaters collected more than 70 medals. During the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, our athletes captured 10 medals, including gold medals for Christine Nesbitt in the 1,000m, Charles Hamelin in the 500m as well as our men’s relay and pursuit teams. During the 2010-2011 World Cup season, our speed skaters garnered 60 medals.
Not only do we support Canada’s Olympians, but we also believe in supporting athletes at all stages of the sport. For that reason, we also foster the interest and support the development of speed skating amongst Canadian children. We are also thrilled to have “the fastest woman on ice”, two-time Olympic Champion and three-time World Champion, Catriona Le May Doan, working with us to promote our Podium Tracker program.
Podium Tracker
is a program where Intact donates $1,000 to a local speed skating club every time a member of our national speed skating team places on the podium during the 2010-2011 World Cup or World Championship.
